Toyota is eliminating the wait from its Map on Demand GPS system. The venerable Japanese automaker has announced a significant upgrade to its maps and directions service, an upgrade that will provide for dynamic updates of existing maps and construction information. No longer will customers have to wait until next year to get the latest in map changes. Rather, Toyota will provide these updates through a download or via a cell phone network.

Local road information can be delivered almost immediately, with highway info taking up to a week to download. These systems will arrive to Japanese-market vehicles in the next month or two. We can only hope that they will make it to North America soon.
