In an age with rapidly increasing gas prices, more and more people are looking for cars that have better fuel economy (as well as those that are better for the environment). This does not necessarily mean that you need to get a hybrid or a ultracompact econobox with no luxury items whatsoever. Audi has gone ahead and made their A3 and A4 vehicles more efficient. The A3 1.9 TDI e, for example, now boasts an incredible fuel economy rating of 4.5L/100km. That works out to over 50 mpg.
In addition to the A3 Sportback 1.9 TDI e, Audi also announced a slightly revitalized A3. It gets “higher transmission ratios for 3rd and 5th gears.” The Audi A4 TFSI e, available as both a sedan and Avant wagon, is equipped with “an additional high-ratio 6th gear” as well as “various weight reduction measures”, like an aluminum hood, low-rolling-resistance tires, and aerodynamic measures. This A4 gets 7.1L/100km (33mpg), despite hiding 170 horses under the hood.
