Looks like the Logitech Harmony has got some competition on its hands, because the WiFi Smart Remote from tvCompass is on the prowl, and it’s bringing all sorts of wireless utensils and tools with it to the fight. It has a large 2.2-inch QVGA LCD at the top, providing you with a “home screen for simple setup.” The premium home theater remote control can also download information from the internet via its 802.11b/g WiFi connectivity options, grabbing an electronic program guide (EPG) for TV listings, as well as “games, videos, messaging and web content.” You can also enjoy location-free updates the same way.
They say that fumbling through the menu is easy, because it has a “familiar mobile phone-style navigation” system. There are hot keys to quickly access news and information, one touch access to TV listing, a speaker to hear alerts and play back digital audio, the ability to learn and be customized, a rechargeable lithium ion battery, and yes, even “Advanced Microsoft Windows [Embedded] operating software.” It’ll control more than 24 home theater devices too. No word on pricing, but I can’t imagine it being cheap at all.
