Some people have said that this year’s set of Super Bowl commercials weren’t as creative as years past, but this one stuck out in my mind. Maybe it’s the tech-geek in me coming through, but first time Super Bowl advertiser Garmin did a pretty good job, I’d say, with “Maposaurus.” Whether you admit it or not, there’s a good chance that several of you were fans of Ultraman or Power Rangers at some point in your lives, and if that happens to be the case, you’ll get a good chuckle out of this “50s-style battle between a monster than emanates from a driver’s wind blown road map and the driver whose personal GPS device converts him into a monster fighting super hero.”
Based on the YouTube page, there’s a good chance that this is not a one-time deal, and could very well grow into a Maposaurus-themed campaign for Garmin. It makes mention of a “corresponding microsite” as well as “a blog that digs deeper into the world of the Maposaurus.”
