A-DATA expands 2.5-inch SSD, shoe-horns in 128GB

Look ma! No moving parts! A-DATA sure seems proud of themselves and for good reason: they’ve managed to stick 128GB of storage into a 2.5-inch solid state drive. That’s flash memory folks, meaning that there are no whirling platforms that’ll suffer from the odd bump or bruise. While not nearly small enough to fit into a USB thumb drive or MP3 player just yet, this 2.5-inch block is perfect for laptops, helping them boot up faster and run more smoothly.

No word on pricing or availability of this Solid State Disk, but I’m happily anticipating when OEMs and ODMs start picking it up to plunk into their laptops. There were two major hitches holding back the proliferation of SSDs in notebooks: a lack of capacity and an inflated price. I’m not sure about the latter, but this A-DATA unit certainly addresses the former.
