There’s not very much that can be said about external hard drives, because all they do, pretty much, is store your data in a portable kind of way. Sure, some may come with a biometric fingerprint reader or some sort of unique (and/or rugged) form factor, but for all intents and purposes, you just need them to stash your 1s and 0s, and do it well.
Toshiba’s latest is a USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive. It’s nothing fancy, but they do claim that it’ll be “simple, scheduled, automatic, and reliable”, especially with the NTI Shadow software that comes bundled. For the more forgetful among us, this application runs in the background and automatically backs up your data for you in real time. No need to remember to press a button or click an icon.
Available in 100GB, 120GB, and 160GB capacities, the Toshiba USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive, with sleek black aluminum housing and all, will start at $140 when it ships in the Spring.
