Asus U5255F-DR laptop barely tips the scales

There’s two major pushes in the area of portable electronics these days. On the one hand, some folks want to cram in as many features as humanly possible, while on the other hand, some companies are aiming to create the incredible shrinking gadget. This latest laptop seems to achieve the best of both worlds. Destined for the Chinese market, the ASUS U5255F-DR notebook pushes the functionality envelope with its Core 2 Duo T5500 processor, all while keeping the package at just 1.4kg (just a touch over three pounds).

Featuring the Sonoma platform, this slick and simple black notebook comes with a 12-inch XGA LCD, “Splendid” engine for improved color performance, and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) for security purposes. Connectivity options include 802.11g WiFi and Bluetooth. Rounding out the specs are a 60GB HDD, 512MB RAM, and some sort of DVD optical drive.

No word on pricing.
