The days where Microsoft Internet Explorer was the be all and end all of web browsers are long since gone. We’ve got a lot of options out there — Firefox, Safari, and so on — and there’s a silent assassin lurking in the shadows that is set to take over the world. Opera is powering the Nintendo DS browser and the web surfer on the Wii, and now Opera has landed a contract with Samsung to do the same.

A deal has been inked that will see Opera provide Samsung with “Internet browsers for its advance[d] mobile telephones.” What this means is that they may not be a part of the show for their budget-minded phones, but if you’re in the market for a WinMo smartphone, for example, you may be browsing with Opera on the next Samsung offering.

It’s not a set rate either, as Opera is getting paid on a “per phone sold” basis. Infinitely lucrative.
