Maybe it is time to put your money where your mouth is, because betting on an iPhone announcement is starting to seem like a better and better wager. Apple filed a patent on an “handheld computing device, specifically a cellphone and media player combination” and now that patent has been granted.

Based on the sketch provided, the styling is very much like a current (2nd-gen) iPod nano, but you’ll notice that it only shows the ubiquitous click wheel. However, Apple does note that “it could have more controls”, possibly taking on a slider form factor to hide the keypad. Apple has dominated the MP3 player market, and if this rumored iPhone is an equally impressive success, they just may dominate the cell phone market too.
