Rugged iPod case can survive dunks in water
One still-popular Latin phrase is caveat emptor: “Let the buyer beware.” We tend to apply that warning to any sort of product that comes with a lifetime guarantee because it usually means that you’ll be attempting to get a replacement at least once.
Well, this new iPod case from Peli, the i1010, comes with that patented lifetime guarantee. That aside, it looks like a winner. The case is waterproof and shockproof. We wouldn’t recommend kicking it around like a Samsonite suitcase, but it sounds like something that can survive the occasional drop from a backpack or laptop bag. The strap is made of stern nylon, for ease and safety of carry as well. Convenient for listening is the external headphone jack, so you don’t need to have the case hanging open while you’re grooving to your tunes.
BTW, Peli is best known for its industrial products, like lights and waterproof cases for fire and rescue personnel. They even make a case to hold guns. They’ve used that technological know-how to design this iPod case, so we can assume that at least they know what they’re doing. They are marketing this product, however, for outdoor types who want to take their tunes with them, even if that means kayaking and other waterborne pursuits.
Inside the case, you’ll find a pocket to store all your iPod paraphernalia. (If you’re like me, you have more than pair of headphones.) You can get the i1010 in black or white.
You’ll be paying a bit more for that security as well. The i1010 is moderately priced at US$61, which is certainly less than the price of a new iPod.
