Mobile banking may not be particularly prevalent on this side of the Pacific, but it’s absolutely a way of life for many people in Japan and Korea. Well, it seems like things are about to change (and we’re slowly catching up). Cingular has just announced that they are launching a mobile banking application that would allow you to do all your basic banking needs on your cell phone. That includes money transfers, balance viewing, and — we know how much you love to do this — paying your bills.

Perhaps best of all, Cingular is not charging customers anything extra to make use of this service. The orange goop of a mobile service provider is still shopping around for a bank to partner with, but we should be expecting a full commercial roll out early next year.
