Thing is, when you buy yourself a quad-band GSM world phone, it’s not really a world phone. If you happen to find yourself in the middle of the Antarctic or fighting your way through the vicious Siberian tundra, you’re probably going to have a tough time phoning home. Fret not, my fearless world traveller, because the new Globalstar GSP-1700 satellite phone will keep you connected no matter where you go, even supplying you with EV-DO high speed data where you can get it.
This has got to be one of the smallest satellite phones on the market (203 grams), and with the Qualcomm-powered EV-DO connectivity, you’re in for a win-win situation. They say you’ll get four hours of talk, 36 hours of standby on a single charge. No word on pricing, but our best guess has it around $750. Look for it “in the coming months.”
