We reviewed this media player a few months ago, when it was only offered as a 4-gig unit at most. Instead of re-envisioning the unit, Archos has decided to simply bump up the storage capacity on their 104 digital audio player. All of the specs — colorful OLED display, decent battery life, and so forth — remain the same. The only notable change is that the microdrive under the hood will be offered in an 8 gigabyte variant, in addition to the 6-gigger that slipped under the radar. Some may find this decision a little odd, considering there are notable flash-based players (*cough* nano *cough*) that already boast that kind of capacity. Why settle for a laggy microdrive when you can get speedier access from NAND flash?
