Sun and Wind-powered ferry coming to San Fran

Hornblower Yachts plans to purchase two 600-passenger trimarans from Solar Sailor of Australia, these hybridized ferries will cost between $6 and $8 million, and will cut emissions in half compared to similar sized conventional ferries.

Power will be supplied in the form of wind, solar and diesel fuel, with a retractable 45-foot high wing covered in solar panels. The wing can generate 170hp on its own sail, when pushing heavy the sail goes down and starts to collect sunlight.

Be prepared to ride one in 2008 on your way to Alcatraz.
