I think the stars are aligned tonight, because we’ve come across a simple, straight-forward solution that essentially tricks “iTunes into thinking that the [non-Apple] device is an iPod.” In this way, Fairplay DRM-protected content can quickly and easily find its way onto your favorite Creative Zen, Sandisk Sansa, or Samsung Yepp. DoubleTwist Ventures, a partnership between “DVD” Jon Johansen and Monique Farantzos, is the apparent savior of the day.

DVD Jon already figured out that you can burn iTunes music onto a CD and then rip it back out as a MP3 or WMA for use on another player, but this new option is completely “hidden and automatic.” DoubleTwist is looking to license the technology to device makers. Any takers?
