Not that we expected it to happen overnight, but Apple has gotten around to dropping that oh so fast Core 2 Duo chip in the big brother; MacBook Pro lineup. Apple is touting the merom-based MBPs at “up to 39% faster than its predecessor”, however MacWorld ran some tests last month on the iMac Core 2 Duo with similar processing power and only turned up with a 10% boost.
Pricing starts at $1999, with that you get a 15-incher with 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB of memory, 120GB hard drive, 6x double-layer SuperDrive and the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB SDRAM. Or you can go all gung-ho with the 17-inch mac daddy sporting a 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB memory, 160GB hard drive, 8x double-layer SuperDrive and a 256MB Radeon X1600.
