I’m sure you’ve heard by now. Lithium ion batteries go boom, particularly if they are manufactured by Sony. The electronics maker has just added a few more units to its ever-growing list, recalling an additional 340,000 batteries for this round. In addition to heavy hitters like Dell, Apple, Toshiba, and Panasonic, we will now find little ol’ Gateway among the flaming bunch as well. Check out this link from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission for a list of affected models.

This is likely not the last time we’ll be hearing about booming batteries, so there’s a good chance that if you’ve got a laptop — no matter what brand — you just may be affected anyways.
