3Com has come out with a new VoIP phone that is cordless, so people who move around a lot in their jobs can take the phone with them. The phone works on the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) structure and with wireless LAN protocols.

This is not exactly a cell phone that you can walk out of the building with, despite the phone’s wireless capabilities. It is, however, a good solution for health care workers and government employees, who are often away from their desks. These folks can take their phones with them, listen to voicemail and even read email.

The 3108 is a clamshell, for easy portability. Its retail price is relatively low at US$145.
