I have a strong suspicion that this was the creation of some cell phone geek living out of his mom’s basement. While all the current incarnations of the SLVR bear the same letter (L2, L6, and L7), this latest handset is being dubbed the E9. The number perhaps makes sense, but you’ve got to wonder about the shift to the letter E, especially when this “news” comes from such a reliable source (a random Chinese website).

Apparently, the specs run as thus: Bluetooth 1.2, MP3 player, microSD expansion, 50MB internal memory, 3.2 megapixel camera, EGPRS, and — perhaps most notably — WiFi connectivity. No styling cues to wow us, but those features are awfully tempting. I want to believe it.
