Hybrid vehicles could soon get dramatically cheaper. Toyota has made public their determination to cut the cost of their hybrid technology in half within the next three years. That could knock a couple thousand dollars of the price tag.

Not only will the 2009 Prius be cheaper, but it will also be lighter. The company is working on improving their hybrid technology so that the vehicles can lose a little bit of weight, resulting in better performance and fuel efficiency. Estimates for the 2009 vehicles are about 90 mpg.
