There have been trials of DAB music downloads going on in the UK since the spring. They have clearly been successful because the beta phase will end and a full rollout will begin early next year.
British users will be able to download a song that they hear on DAB for about $2.35 each. They will get two WMA files for that price – a 32kbps version that will go to their phone and a 128kbps rendition that they can access online for download. The first phone with the service enabled will be Virgin Mobile’s Lobster DAB-enabled phone (pictured).
