To make a huge impact in the mobile navigation segment, Nokia has exclusively licensed the patents that Trimble Navigation holds. Trimble, a California company, has more than 700 patents relating to the locating of individuals or places using GPS satellites, as well as the distances from cellphone towers. Under this new agreement, Nokia will be the only company able to use them in consumer devices. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Nokia will also able to sub-license rights to the patents to other users.
