I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again. Pantech & Curitel may not be particularly well known outside of their home Korea, but the company has promised to make huge waves around the globe to get some worldwide recognition. In their latest move to make a name for themselves in the Americas, Pantech & Curitel Communications has forged a strategic alliance with UTStarcom Personal Communications. This deal effectively makes P&C the exclusive supplier of all UTStarcom (formerly known as Audiovox) CDMA handsets destined for North and Latin America. The only country exempt from this agreement is Brazil.

To go into effect next month, this three-year-deal does not cover any GSM or WCDMA handsets. Nonetheless, it is a significant step to “further our goal of becoming a leading global handset manufacturer,” according to P&C Communications President and CEO Sung Kyu Lee.
