Nissan to enter the hybrid market

Better late than never, Nissan is finally going to jump into the hybrid market. They have a hybrid Altima coming in 2007, though the technology in that model has been licensed from Toyota. The company will reportedly be launching their own, entirely self-built technology in time for the 2010 model year. This is an interesting shift, since CEO Carlos Ghosn has been fairly vocal in saying that hybrids don’t make a whole lot of business sense because of their low margins, higher production costs and consumers’ unwillingness to pay significantly more for them.
