Whether it be cell phones, MP3 players, or portable gamers, it seems that the soup du jour is always a special edition version of an old device. Apple “completely remastered” its Nano by cladding it in some colorful aluminium cases, and now Sony is doing something similar with their PlayStation Portable: they’re decking it out in a special edition Metal Gear themed casing.

Of course, the guts underneath the pretty packaging are identical to any garden variety PSP, but if you want to be a little different than all your fellow PSP owners, then this is certainly a tempting proposition. It’s not based on the video game, per se, rather gaining its inspiration from the Metal Gear Solid comic book, also produced and directed by the legendary Hideo Kojima.
