This has got to be one of the greatest do-it-yourself (DIY) projects around. Jory Squibb got tired of emptying his pocketbook every time he hit up the pump, so he devised the Moonbeam, a car that is capable of going 100 miles on a single gallon of gas.

As the price for black gold continues to rise, sometimes you just have to take matters into your own hands. Squibb got himself a couple of mopeds, invested about $2000 worth of parts, and fashioned himself the Moonbeam. It’s a little cozy — there’s room for 1.5 passengers (for 2, if you’re okay with being intimate) — but it’ll do 100mpg on the highway and 85mpg in the city. It tops out at 50mph, but that’s plenty fast for most city streets anyways.
