Many mobile phone users still have a wired phone at home. This one’s for them.

The fairly new technology enables cordless phones to continue to operate without interference from Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or other wireless frequencies. Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications, or DECT for short, runs on the 1.9 GHz part of the spectrum, which is nowhere near the vast majority of wireless communications.

Thomson is planning a big launch of new GE cordless phones running DECT, like the one in the picture, for the end of the month. A Skype phone is on the way as well. If you live in one of those families that has wired and wireless calls going at the same time, you’ll no doubt appreciate the new functionality of DECT.
