McLaren leaves car design up to students

You could hire some really expensive artists or some highly-educated engineers, but if you really want to get the creative juices flowing, maybe you should have a look at the kid down the street who’s always doodling something. That was the idea behind McLaren’s student design competition, and based on these top three finishers, every car company should be hosting these events.

Held in association with the Istituto Europeo di Design, the competition involved 39 students divided into 14 groups. They were told to take on the McLaren frame of mind, and design a 1:4 scale model that represented “the best interpretation of a future McLaren road car”. The top three models are shown below: the MP11, Manta, and the winner, the M Eleven B (pictured in the center).
