New LCD for next-gen mobile phones

Those images you see on your mobile phone will get a lot clearer in the near future, thanks to big-screen TV manufacturer LG Philips LCD.

The key letters in that South Korean-Dutch joint venture are LCD, and that newly announced liquid crystal display will be a cornerstone of next-generation mobile phones. The display has a super-fast response time, just 16 milliseconds. That’s a 36-percent improvement on current top-of-the-line TFT-LCD panels.

Such technology is almost a necessity nowadays, in the realm of high-definition digital video. The display described by LG Philips LCD is two inches wide but full of sharp, ghost-free picture, the company said.
