Motorola hasn’t forgotten about WiMAX, the company announced that they are moving forward in a big way toward having the powerful technology on mobile phones. The news quote that came out of the Technology office was all about downloading music onto your phone, which we suppose is one thing you could do with a WiMAX-enabled phone. For our money, though, you could take it more places than you can currently take a GSM phone.

GSM is still all the rage, as companies vie for the title of top 3G provider and be first to come out with new technologies like Super-and 3G LTE (and even 4G, which is rumored to be around the corner as well). For now, in keeping with the current technology, Motorola will keep on releasing new products built on existing standards. In the near future, however, you might have a phone that can switch from GSM to Wi-Fi to WiMAX and back again, all in the space of a round-trip across town.
