The laptop battery recall is spreading.

Matsushita, one of the giants in the Japanese electronics industry, has issued a recall for 6,000 PC batteries because of concerns of overheating. The trigger for that overheating in this case is said to be strong impact, such as dropping.

Sony is already in the doghouse thanks to the exploding and burning Dell batteries. That’s a bigger doghouse, though: The Sony recall was for 4.1 million batteries. Matsushita’s recall is a bit smaller yet still highly significant.

Matshushita had few details about the battery supplier, other than that it wasn’t Panasonic or Sony. The batteries are thought to be confined to notebooks made in April and May of last year and sold only in Japan.
