There’s no ifs, ands, or buts about where they got their inspiration for this handset. The UBiQUiO 501 bears a striking resemblance to the super slim Motorola Q smartphone, and it actually has a leg up on several fronts.
Sure, it won’t have the same level of brand recognition as the company that flooded the market with RAZRs and SLVRs, but the 501 has a fair bit going for it. In addition to a full QWERTY keyboard and Windows Mobile 5.0, this skinny beast throws down a Texas Instruments OMAP 750 processor, 128MB ROM, 64MB RAM, and a 2.5-inch TFT LCD.
Big deal, right? Well, unlike the Q, the UBiQUiO 501 has got 802.11b/g WiFi to go with its Bluetooth connectivity. They’ve even got the picture-taking department covered, tossing in a 2.0 megapixel camera to beat the Q’s 1.3. They did have to add a touch of girth to do it though, as the 501 is 14mm thick, compared with the 11.5mm Q.
No word on availability, but the 501 is said to coming with a $567 asking price.
