Now why would we think that we needed a monitor to use a portable media player? Onkyo apparently doesn’t.

The electronics giant has released the not surprisingly named Portable Media Player with nary an LCD in sight. Instead, you can hook up your own video display, thank you very much, while enjoying the tremendous range of formats supported by the Player. Among those formats are DivX, XviD, and MPEG of every number variety.

Did we mention that this was an audio player as well? It plays nice with MP3s, WMAs, WAVs, and even Ogg Vorbis files.

You can get one of these beauties early next month. They also come with car adapters, for those family DVD and music trips.
