A full-featured digital SLR still costs a pretty penny, but if you’re going to spend that kind of coin, you absolutely have the right to expect that the camera come with all the bells and whistles. The Nikon D80 definitely will not disappoint, complete with its 10.2 megapixel DX format CCD, interchangeable lenses, 11-area autofocus and much more.

Destined for store shelves some time next month, the D80 incorporates Nikon’s latest digital and photographic technologies. You’ll find 3D Color Matrix Metering II, 0.18 second start time, 80ms shot response, D-Lighting, red-eye reduction, image overlay… the list just goes on and on.

This is also the first time that we’ve seen a high-end DSLR come with an SD expansion slot, a welcome addition given that the memory card format is available in huge capacities for competitive prices these days.

Look to spend $999 for the body alone, or $1299 if you want a 18-135mm lens thrown into the package.
