Not that you’d need it on a regular basis, but you can now shoot in the ultraviolet and infrared spectrums with the latest DSLR from Fuji.

The FinePix S3 Pro UVIR is an update in the series, to a point. This handheld is targeted at the medical, scientific, and fine arts communities, the members of whom will no doubt appreciate the CCD previewing low-light manual focus while the lens takes on dark filters. Coupled with the S3’s existing super dynamic resolution and image sensor, this is one powerful image-shooter.

The uses that will get the most press, however, are the UV and IR ones, with their applicability to examining images of blood stains, damaged documents, and other things found at a crime scene.

Given the increased functionality, it’s no surprise that the price tag is hefty as well: US$1,800. You can get one in September.
