The launch of the Mitsubishi Evolution X is now imminent, because the automaker has unveiled the swan song edition of its predecessor, the Evo IX, in the form of the 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Special Edition. We already knew about this vehicle last week, but only now have pictures sprung up.

This “Special Edition” will be the last round of updates to the Evolution IX body style. You’ll find an aluminium roof (the same as on the Evo RS and MR), a new front lip extension, “Diamond Black” 17-inch wheels courtesy of BBS, beautiful red-stitched racing seats from Recaro, and super bright HID headlights.

The stealthy look of the Graphite Grey (especially with the dark wheels) looks pretty darn sexy to me, but Mitsubishi will also be offering the Evo SE in Apex Silver and Tarmac Black. No bold flashy colours here.

Get in line, because the 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Special Edition has been priced at a reasonable $33,249.
