It was only a matter of time before we got the next significant jump in portable storage capacity. The barely there microSD format will soon be available with an incredible 2GB on-board, thanks to the good people at SanDisk. This is the first time that this much storage, in such a tiny package, has been made available to the public.

As I’m sure you’ve already heard, Verizon Wireless now proudly carries the ultra-purdy LG Chocolate Phone, a music-centric handset that takes on microSD cards for storage. As such, the SanDisk 2GB microSD card will soon be available through “Can you hear me now?” retailers for $99.99. A worldwide release is planned shortly after that, likely at the same price.

And yes, of course the fingernail-sized microSD card comes with a standard-size SD card adapter.
