The 3-Series is the legendary line of vehicles that really put BMW on the map, putting the German automaker on the minds of just about everyone looking for a little performance to go with their luxury. After all, they’re known for producing “the ultimate driving machine.” Looking at these design sketches, the new 2007 3-Series coupe could have been a lot more exciting that the actual production model.

That’s usually the case when you compare the exaggerated proportions and oversized wheels found on design sketches, but there seems to be something different altogether here. Unlike the official 3-Series coupe, which pretty much picks up where the current 3-Series left off, this design sketch harkens more to 6-Series styling (especially the roofline). In this way, this could have become an all new 4-Series coupe, the more sporty line currently occupied by the Z4.

Let’s hope they don’t scrap this design altogether. Maybe, just maybe, it’ll be a 2008 model. Who knows…
