Designed by Digital Arts Inc. of Japan, the i-Filter is a service that is designed to filter out the nasty bits that can be found on the interweb. Although the “undesirable” content is mostly pornographic in nature, it probably also blocks out other stuff you wouldn’t want your underage child looking at. They’ve made sure that the filter isn’t too strict either, with Digital Arts employees personally ensuring that non-offensive sites are not blacklisted.
Unlike the DS Opera browser itself, which is a one-time purchase, the i-Filter is an ongoing service, costing users a monthly fee of 315 yen (less than US$3, but multiply that through a year and you’re looking at thirty bucks). A small price to pay, I suppose, for a little piece of mind.
