It isn’t as sexy as the iPod nano, but the new Audio Steno AU522 MP3 player from Apacer does have a rather distinct look to it, seemingly mimicking the nearly useless but fashionable Nokia 7280. The orange stripe adds a little flare to an otherwise boring package.
With capacities ranging from 256MB on the low end to a full two gigs on the high end, the AU522 lacks a full color display. Instead, there is simply a 2-tone 128 x 64 OLED display to show you what you’re listening to. With such a simple screen, you would think that the battery life should be exceptional, and it is… exceptionally low, however. At a mere eight hours, it just won’t cut it in today’s market.
Its one saving grace, however, is its ability to expand its storage capacity via the MMCmicro memory card slot that will swallow up cards of up to 1GB in size. Other notable features include an FM radio and the built-in USB port. No word on pricing, but the product page tells us that it’s “coming soon”.
