The new Compaq Presario v6000 appears to be a rather attractive notebook on the aesthetic end of things, but the spec sheet won’t exactly compete with the big boys. In this way, it will be marketed as an entry-level unit with several options for upgrading to a more usable feature set.

As a replacement for the v5000 series, the v6000 laptop will be powered by your choice of AMD processors. On the lower end of things, you can opt for the Mobile or Sempron variant, but if you want a little more umph, you may want to invest the extra few bucks to get the dual-core AMD Turion 64 X2.

The basic v6000 is pretty basic, but there are plenty of upgradable options. Hit up the high end and go for a 5-in-1 card reader, FireWire, all three flavours of WiFi, Bluetooth, a trio of USB 2.0 ports, and an ExpressCard/54 slot. A 15.4-inch display comes standard.

No word on pricing or availability, so stay tuned for more news as it comes in.
