The Bugatti Veyron may be the cream of the supercar crop, but Porsche seems to be tired of Bugatti getting all the attention. Porsche is reportedly preparing to release a street legal version of the car they sent to LeMans. It will be called the GT1 and it will be targeted right at the crowd which currently buys the Veyron. Thanks to its engine, which kicks out 950 bhp, it will top out at 254 mph which is, not coincidentally, I’m sure, 2 mph faster than the top speed for the Bugatti.

Porsche fans will notice that the GT1 seems to be a replacement for the now deceased Carrera GT. It will be built on a modified version of the same carbon fiber chassis. Unlike the predecessor, though, it will have a closed cockpit and a different body.

What isn’t clear is just what engine will be under the hood. Porsche has options – either a modified version of the V10 from the Carrera GT or a turbocharged improvement on the V8 from the Cayenne. No word on when it will come out, but they had better hurry, because Bugatti is at work on the next Veyron.
