Samsung is showing a VGA resolution LCD panel mobile phone at the Society of Information conference in San Francisco. The significance here is that even on the 2 or so inches that we have on a mobile phone display, being able to see things in VGA would enable us to more closely approximate what we would see if we were looking at a desktop PC or a laptop.
The natural extension there is that mobile TV, which is becoming more and more common, won’t be the sort of lo-def presentation that some people have thought it could be. Samsung claims that its new LCD panel has 400 pixels per square inch, 10 times that of a typical hi-def LCD TV.
And if mobile TV is clear as crystal, then it goes without saying that graphics and hi-res games will be crystal-clear as well.
