Starting early in 2007 you will be able to get the Jeep Grand Cherokee that runs on diesel gasoline.

The 3.0 liter engine, which is built by Mercedes-Benz, will provide you with 215 horsepower. More impressively, though, the diesel improves the mileage by more than 30%, meaning you can get 23 miles per gallon on the highway and enjoy a range of 425 miles between visits to the pump. It’s clean diesel, too, so carbon dioxide emissions are 20% lower than a standard diesel.

The move to a diesel Grand Cherokee made sense for Jeep after the first diesel SUV introduced in the U.S., the Jeep Liberty, sold far better than then company was expecting. Earlier in the year, Jeep also announced a Grand Cherokee which can run on E85.
