Iomega has spent the last several years trying to find another hit in the portable storage sector after Jaz and Zip faded from the mainstream. Their latest attempt is the 60GB USB 2.0 mini hard drive. It has some decent aspects and at least one major drawback. The drive weighs just 3.5 ounces and draws power from the USB connection so there are no other cords or connections needed. It measures 3.4” x 2.9” x 0.5”, making it easy to slip into your pocket and is protected by a leather case when you aren’t using it.
The biggest problem that this drive will have as it attempts to gain a market foothold is the price. At $260 for 60GB, it comes in higher than many similar portable HDD with larger capacities. It remains to be seen if Iomega can position the drive in such as way as to overcome the comparably hefty price tag.
