Sony Ericsson hands waterproof 3G handset to DoCoMo
While you can’t go deep sea diving with this thing and send off a huge picture and/or video files to your compatriots on dry land, the new SO902WP+ from Sony Ericsson is able to survive for up to half an hour in a metre-deep of water. Available now through the DoCoMo people in Japan, the SO902WP+ (I’m sure you can figure out what the WP stands for) is basically an upgrade of sorts to the previously released SO902i.
Interestingly, it seems that in order to shove in whatever they needed to in order to make this phone waterproof, they had to downgrade the camera from the original 3.2 megapixel shooter to a more bleh-worthy 1.3 megapixel rendition. This new FOMA phone will do your standard 3G fare, just like the SO902i before it, and they’ve added in an LED to indicate IC-card activity. You can even make out what’s on the display while lunging into the toilet thanks to the brighter screen.
The SE SO902WP+ retails for about $315.
