Hurray, the FCC approves another cell phone. This time around, the United States has a good chance to be treated to the BenQ-Siemens EL71 slider phone very soon because the FCC has given the handset a big thumbs up and the all important seal of approval.
We first heard about this 16.5mm thick handset a couple of months ago, and the “mobile entertainer” is still as captivating today as it was then. As expected from a multimedia-centric phone, the EL71 features quick access keys on the front for you to control all your tunes (MP3, AAC, AAC+). The metal casing – classy brushed aluminium and magnesium – gives this phone a good feel to it, unlike the cheaper plastic covers you find on the market.
Other features include a 262k color 2-inch QVGA display, 1.3 megapixel camera with LED photolight, and a microSD expansion slot. And yes, it’s got Bluetooth too. No word on pricing.
