While we here in North America have been treated to the 250 and 350 varieties of the new Lexus IS line of “entry-level” sports sedans, it doesn’t surprise me at all that the Toyota-owned automaker has made a diesel variant for the European market, aptly named the IS220d. It can safely be assumed that there is likely a 2.2-liter engine under hood of this beast.
They’ve tuned up the sport model of the car with a change to the rear axle ratio for a “more urgent response in any gear”, given that this car is rear-wheel-drive. Interestingly, the 0-62mph time is still the same 8.9 seconds possible with the standard model.
This upgraded model, in addition to a body kit, also receives a sportier suspension package as well as 18-inch alloy wheels. You’ll find a metal-effect trim, sports pedals, and suede-effect upholstery on the inside. If you want a IS220d, you’ll need to spend at least £26,925.
