Back in November we reviewed the Apricorn MicroKey, a USB memory key housed in a crush resistant aluminum alloy case for extra durability for people on the go. It is claimed to be the most rugged USB-IF certified memory device out there. At that time both a 4GB and a 6GB model were available with an 8GB version promised sometime in the future. Well, that future is here. The 8GB model is available today at a cost of $199.

At 3.4” x 2” x 0.5” it might be slightly wider than some drives we are seeing now, but it’s slim design and swiveling USB 2.0 connector make it easy to attach to any computer. If you really run into troubles, it ships with a 1 meter USB extension cable. It also ships with Second Copy 2000 synchronizing software, Cryptainer encryption software and a protective carrying case. It weighs just 2.5 ounces, so portability isn’t an issue.
