Panasonic is launching a mini stereo for its D-Snap DAPs, but interestingly, doesn’t require you to actually dock the MP3 player itself into the unit. All you have to do is take the SD card out and shove it into the D-Dock, and the tunes come blaring out.

What this means is that the D-Dock likely plays any SD card with some music on it, but don’t expect Panasonic to mention that part to you. What they will mention is that their stereo system features a 5-disc CD or DVD player, as well as a Mini Disc player.

The MD format is all but forgotten here in the North America, but it’s still hugely popular in Japan where the D-Dock is exclusively available. Rip MD music to SD cards with a simple press of a button, throw that card into a D-Snap (or any other SD-expandable MP3 player), and you’re good to go.
